A scenic ascent to Croix de Coeur. The higher you get, the more impressive the Alpine views, as far as the Grand Combin on the pass and your constant companion from here.
After Nendaz, you tackle the long ascent to reach the vantage terrace of the Thyon ski region. A downhill run to Hérémence, with constant views of the imposing Grand Dixance dam far back in the valley.
You leave Val d’Hérens high above the valley floor. The large ski resorts are behind you, the villages get smaller and sleepier. On to Grimentz, with views of the Diablerets Glacier, Wildhorn and Wildstrubel on the opposite side of the valley.
The village centre of Grimentz is one of the most beautiful and typical Valais townscapes. On along a gravel track into Val de Zinal and some sweaty ascents to Chandolin.
A diverse and scenic stretch along Lac des Chavonnes, a deep-blue mountain lake. The highest part of the route with a spectacular panorama is reached high above Villars, before the racy descent begins into the Rhone Valley.
