The commanding size of the Bodensee becomes evident on the climb up the Rorschacherberg. A little later the situation changes and the expanse of the Bodensee region contrasts with the narrow valleys and pretty villages of Appenzellerland.
The lovely hilly region with attractively painted houses and picturesque townscapes is typical of this stage. The mighty Säntis massif draws closer, its magnificent cliffs an impressive sight.
The route becomes more Alpine and at the foot of the Säntis leads along alp and gravel paths to the first two «real» passes on the Panorama Bike - Schwägalp Pass and Risipass - and then down into Toggenburg.
A small steep asphalt road leads out of Toggenburg to Vorder Höhi, with wonderful views of the rugged Glarner Alps. The racy descent leads to the shores of the glistening, deep-blue Walensee.
One of the toughest stages of the Panorama Bike leads via the Rossweidhöchi and Sattelegg to the monastery town of Einsiedeln, the most famous place of pilgrimage in Switzerland.
